AIIMS Bhopal
All India Institute of Medical Sciences Bhopal (AIIMS Bhopal) is a medical research public university and Institute of National Importance, located in the Saket Nagar suburb of Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, India. It is one of the All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) established by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojna (PMSSY). In 2003, Central government decided to set up new AIIMS at Rishikesh, Bhopal, Patna, Jodhpur, Bhubaneswar and Raipur.Though the announcement was made in 2003 during Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s tenure the project was delayed owing to the power shift at the center. AIIMS Bhopal launched its first academic department, community and family medicine (CFM) in September 2012, formed its Institute Body (IB), in July 2013 and started post-graduation courses in January 2017. Gandhi Medical College, Bhopal
GMC, was formally inaugurated on 13th Aug. 1955 by the Union Minister Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri. The foundation stone of the present building was laid in 1956 by Shri G.B. Pant, Home Minister of India and after its completion, was inaugurated by the then Prime Minister of India Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru in March 1963.
GMC progressed under the able guidance of brilliant and dynamic Principals, Deans and Professors and successful alumni in India and abroad.
GMC has 23 departments fully equipped with recent technologies and equipments. From session 2020-21, Gandhi Medical College is allotted 250 MBBS seats every year. Increase in U.G. and as well as P.G. seats as well as nursing and various paramedical courses is accompanied by expansion of college and hospital building to about 2000 bedded institute dedicated to world class patient care, Medical education and training as well as research work. GMC also runs superspeciality courses ie MCh. in Pediatric Surgery and Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery as well as DM in Cardiology, PhD Medical Anatomy and Medical Biochemistry. It has three associated hospitals namely Hamidia, Sultania Zanana (Lady) Hospitals and Regional Institute of Respiratory diseases (RIRD). National programmes run in the institute are many with NATIONAL HEART FAILURE REGISTRY, STATE VIROLOGY LABORATORY, CANCER REGISTRY, CENTRAL RESEARCH LABORATORY to name a few.
GMC stood steadfast in its test of time on 2nd December 1984 during the industrial disaster -“MIC Gas Tragedy” as well as during COVID Pandemic.
The College celebrated its Diamond Jubilee in the year 2015 as a grand occasion.
